INAUGURATION OF THE CAO MUSEUM

Peru opened on Thursday (April 2) a Moche culture museum called MUSEO CAO displaying the mummy of a female ruler who was buried 1,700 years ago. She is the only one ever found. Her arms, legs, hands and feet were tattooed with images of spiders and snakes. The elaborate gold items found in her tomb, including her gold crown, were displayed at the museum along with traditional ceramic items. The museum is located 485 kilometres north of the capital city of Lima, in La Libertad.

THE LARCO MUSEUM NEW INSTALLATION

Since a few months ago, the Larco Museum has been immersed in the enlargement and reinstallation of its permanent collection, opening to the public the first half of a complete renewal in January 2009. Towards June of the present year, the permanent exhibition area will have doubled its size, and the important collection will be displayed in a new museography. This will allow the visitors to engage in the discovery of ancient Peru in an enjoyable and entertaining way. Our exhibition “Gold and Jewelry from Ancient Peru” will be twice as large, as we have restored and presented new and outstanding gold, silver and copper objects which will amaze our visitors, and a hall dedicated to human sacrifices of the Mochica Culture. Photography is allowed in all galleries.

IN 2 MONTHS AEROCONDOR WILL OPERATE REGULAR FLIGHTS FROM LIMA TO ICA

The Chairman of Aerocondor declared that in two months approximately his company will start regular flights in the route Lima-Ica. For such purpose was acquired the new Focker 27 aircraft available for 43 passengers. The executive mentioned that this new operation will allow the company to take the passengers to the airport of Ica for further overflight of the Nazca Lines.

HIRAM BINGHAM AND ANDEAN EXPLORER CHOSEN AS THE 2 BEST TRIPS OF SOUTH AMERICA

The known Hiram Bingham and Andean Explorer, both PeruRail's services supported by the British group Orient-Express Hotels, Trains & Cruises, were mentioned among the 25 best trips by train of the world and as the two first ones of South America by the International Railroad Travelers Society. To prepare the list, the organization based on experiences of writers, editors, members and personnel of the Society. These opinions were discussed to qualify several features as for example the services offered on board, the landscapes crossed by, the destinations arrived and the possible entertainment during the trip. This way the service offered by both trains in routes Cusco-Machu Picchu and Cusco-Puno respectively achieved the honors.

New route would be Lamay - Ollantaytambo

MOUNTAIN LODGE OF PERU WILL OPEN FOUR LODGES IN 2012

With an investment of US$ 3 millions the chain of hotels Mountain Lodges of Peru will open four lodges or tourist hostels by year 2012 in the route Lamay - Ollantaytambo, Cusco. This project in the Sacred Valley of the Incas will be the second route of adventure that will offer the company, after the Salcantay - Machu Picchu route.
